Dermot McDermott: BA BMus

Dermot studied classical guitar at the Royal Irish Academy and, more recently, guitar, lute and composition at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama in Dublin where he obtained a BMus degree. As a postgraduate, he has studied composition with Dr Grainne Mulvey and also at the Irish Composition Summer School with tutors Martin O'Leary, Kevin O'Connell and Nicola LeFanu. During this period he also completed a commission for cellist Martin Johnson of a work for cello and piano which was performed in April 2010. In early 2013, he completed and submitted a composition portfolio for the award of an MPhil by the Dublin Institute of Technology. Other activities as a composer include researching and exploring the use of early instruments for contemporary works, and the controlled acoustical enhancement of performance spaces using long string installations.
